About Colorado Hungarian Club
The Hungarian Club of Colorado was founded in 1963 by Hungarians who emigrated to the state of Colorado. The charter of the Club was signed on January 27, 1963 by the 23 founding members, and the founding general meeting was held on February 24, 1963 . The 1963 statutes summarized the objectives of the community as follows:
" The purpose of the association is to build and deepen American and emigration cultural relations, to fight for the freedom and justice of Hungary, to preserve the Hungarian national character and morals, and to nurture the physical health and strength of its members ."
Before the club was formed, there were Hungarian organizations in Denver (local branch of the Reformed Insurance Institute, Hungarian Association of Colorado), but these had little activity in the early 1960s. The most active core of the Hungarians in these years was the young Hungarian football team founded in 1956, who also regularly organized balls and celebrations. These young people decided in 1962 to start a new Hungarian association.
Our club is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. We can proudly say that we have remained faithful to the goals we set in the first years of emigration in order to preserve our Hungarianness and help our Hungarian compatriots.
Our club organizes several programs every year to bring Hungarians living in Colorado together and give them community. From the beginning, we have been celebrating our national holidays together (mainly March 15 and October 23) , organizing two picnics in the summer and supporting children's programs (children's playhouse, Santa's Day, Mother's Day, children's camps, etc.), family and church events.
